What is structured cabling?
Structured cabling is a standardised system of cabling and connectivity that forms the physical backbone of a building network. It organises data, voice and video cabling into a single documented architecture — typically Cat6, Cat6A copper or fibre — so networks are reliable, manageable and ready to scale.

Cat6 remains a sound choice for smaller offices with standard gigabit needs — the right grade is a per-project decision.
How long does structured cabling last?
A standards-compliant structured cabling installation is designed to serve 10–20 years and typically outlives two or three generations of the equipment connected to it. That longevity is why getting the cabling architecture right at fit-out is one of the highest-return technology decisions in a building.
Why does cabling need testing and certification?
Certification testing proves every link meets the performance standard for its category and is required for most manufacturer warranties. Each outlet is measured with a calibrated tester and documented, so faults surface at handover — not months later as intermittent network problems that are far costlier to trace.
Can structured cabling be installed in an occupied office?
Yes. Live-environment cabling is routine: work is phased area by area, noisy or disruptive tasks are scheduled after hours or at weekends, and containment routes are agreed in advance. A clear migration plan keeps teams working while the new infrastructure goes in around them.
