Project Case Study

CCTV for a Heavy-Equipment Yard in Jebel Ali

Some CCTV projects are about cameras. This one was mostly about distance, trenches and heat: a large open-air yard in Jebel Ali holding heavy machinery for a major international heavy-equipment auction company, where every cable run is long, every camera lives outdoors, and nothing can rely on a convenient ceiling.

The delivered system: more than 40 cameras across the yard and its boundary, fed by underground cable routes we excavated, ducted and reinstated ourselves.

The Site and the Challenge

A heavy-equipment yard is a difficult place for surveillance. The assets are high-value and mobile — machines arrive, sell and leave. The site is large and open, so coverage is a perimeter-and-rows problem rather than a rooms problem. And there is almost no built structure to carry cables: no ceilings, no risers, no walls where you need them.

That last point shaped the whole project. Where an office installer runs cable through a ceiling void, a yard this size needs civil works: surveyed routes, excavation, ducting, and cable runs engineered for distances that copper alone doesn’t always reach.

What We Delivered

Coverage design. Camera positions planned around the yard’s real geometry — boundary lines, gates, laydown rows and vehicle movement — so machines are covered wherever they’re parked, not just where a camera happened to fit.

Civil and underground works. Trenching and excavation along the planned routes, ducts laid and cable pulled underground — protected from sun, vehicles and the daily reality of a working yard, with surfaces reinstated behind us.

Installation of 40+ cameras. Outdoor-rated equipment mounted on poles and structures around the yard, positioned for coverage and maintainability in a dusty, high-heat environment.

Cabling and termination. Long-run cabling designed for the distances involved, terminated, dressed and labelled — because a yard system that can’t be maintained is a yard system that slowly dies.

Testing and Handover

Every camera was tested for coverage, image quality and recording before handover — including the far ends of the site, where long cable runs are most likely to show problems. The client received a working, documented system covering the yard, its boundary and its gates.

Work on site is ongoing as the yard develops, and the underground duct network we installed means future cameras extend the system rather than restart it — which is the difference between infrastructure and an installation.

Planning Something Similar?

Yards, depots and open sites are a specific discipline: perimeter security, long-distance cabling and civil works have to be designed together. That’s our home ground — see our CCTV installation in Dubai service, or book a free site survey and we’ll walk your boundary with you.
